all headers not custom built on the car are jig built headers, Stahl gives you basically two tube choices 1-3/4 or 1-7/8, with 1-7/8 tubes you have to use the plates otherwise there is not room for header bolts...
I can agree that a header built on the car with no jig is a custom header.
Yes the adapter flanges are required for larger than 1 3/4 for bolt clearance but should be port matched to the head. If you are only referring to the side exit small block corvette header then you may want to check the website or give them a call.(if you can get them to answer) They offer that particular header in straight tube sizes from 1 5/8" up to and including 2", in addition to stepped combinations such as 1 5/8-1 3/4, 1 3/4-1 7/8, or 1 7/8-2. Or any combination of those sizes that you choose. They also can build for 2 1/2, 3, 3 1/2 or 4" side pipes.
Howard you could have said that about 8 posts ago and saved some ink. You seem a little grumpy today.
I have seen a couple sets of the Stahl headers and they sure are nice, and in the two cars I have seen the fit was perfect. Especially when comparing to Hookers which I have never seen a set fit properly, big block anyway.
I heard Stahl was the best for making power. My headers needed to go above the frame.... Stahls quote for building them, along with the sidepipes, done on the car, was "starting" around $3,500.... no stainless, no ceramic coating. I went a different direction. Stainless headers with V-clamp at collectors, stainless front section of sidetubes, with hookers standard sidepipes sections. Came out around $2,600 total, and all the custom made parts are stainless steel. 1 3/4" for 10 inches, then 1 7/8".

Well they are on! I need to extend the two cover brackets and have a hanging strips made for the black and silver finishing cover that goes on top of the side pipe covers. There was only a short piece of hanging strip left, the rest of the holes had plastic clips installed by the previous owner I guess. They look good though - very satisfied!
What do you think of the side pipe sticking out, should I leave it that way of shorten it by a few inches?
I'd contact the guys at Sweet Thunder... maybe they will sell you their factory style tips for the larger pipes they make for behind the stock covers. When I was running their pipes, I cut the tips off and rotated them so they stuck straight out, instead of the stock down angle... to avoid kicking up dust and dirt - you'd be surprised how good it looks, and the opening in the end of the covers actually looks like it was meant for them to be angled straight out - I was really surprised at just how good it looked.... but unfortunately the only pictures I have are after the car was wrecked.

Slideshow: A Jaguar designer's personal project imagines what a modern front-engined Corvette might look like if Chevrolet revisited the golden age of the Stingray.
