i am trying to install the core support on my 66 roadster after a body off restoration. the body is back on the frame and the holes in the fender wells do not line up with the support. any suggestions would be appreciated.
thanks duke, the core support is sitting too high now so shims would just make it worse. i had some serious rust repairs inthe back kickup of the frame and i'm starting to think my frame is tweaked, although all the body mount holes line up. also having a hard time adjusting the door gaps. unfortunatly we did not document the shims when we dismantled it. :( :( :(
You're going to have to "raise" the entire front fiberglass nose. If you think about it, the core support is also the only body support in front of the body bolts behind the rear wheels. In short, the front is "sagging" :) Lift it gently and see if the inner fender holes line up. Is this the original support? As far as the doors go, you might have to shim up the rear body to get the gaps correct. Chuck
chuck, thanks. i spent the last 6 hours trying to figure this out. it is true that the nose should be raised up but by the time i get everything else lined up the support sits about an inch too high.if i put the support on first, then the doors don't fit because the back end is up too high. i think when the frame was repaired in the rear the side rails at the kickup are welded on too low.by the time i shim everything up there's about a 2inch gap between the frame and the #3 mount. i keep taking all the shims out and starting over again because i keep hoping that it's just me and that the welder did 'nt mess up the back end of the frame.i'm kicking myself for trusting this guy's word. :conehead. he did'nt use a jig but he supposedly used a fixture to line up the holes which do match. :cry
