You say the distributor wasn't disturbed.... if you're getting spark to the plugs and you can see fuel going into the intake manifold (fuel to the carburetor isn't good enough, take the air cleaner off and use your eyeballs to look down into the carb venturi), then it almost has to be timing or fouled plugs... perhaps the body drop did in fact touch the distributor.
Don't assume anything.
On start attempts, does it try to fire at all, even just cough once or twice?
Did you actually remove the distributor cap to inspect it for cracks or damaged posts?
Did you also pull and closely inspect the rotor for damage? Is it correctly seated?
Did you recheck timing and dwell?
Did you try to swivel the distributor to make sure the hold-down bolt actually IS tight?
Have you pulled any of the spark plugs to see what they look like?
I HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH MY PASSENGER CAR. RAN FINE ONE DAY AND THE NEXT IT COUGHED AND SPUTTERED AND HAD NO POWER OVER 30 MPH. REALLY ROUGH. WELL, THIS WAS MY MERCEDES, SO I THOUGHT I HAD A THREE THOUSAND DOLLAR REPAIR BILL COMING. I TOWED IT TO A FOREIGN SPECIALTY SHOP. MY "FOREIGN REPAIR SPECIALIST" THEN REPLACED TWO ELECTRICAL DOO DADS [COST TO ME WAS $900 AND RAPIDLY CLIMBING]. THE CAR STILL RAN THE LIKE CRAP. HE SUGGESTED SOME KIND OF $1500 REPAIR- "THAT OUGHT TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM" [YAH-RIGHT]. SO I CALLED LORENZO, A FELLOW I KNOW THAT FIXES ONLY FERRARI, LAMBORGHINI AND MASERATI. HE TOLD ME - OVER THE PHONE - IT SOUNDS LIKE BAD GASOLINE. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO HIM. HE DRAINED A PINT OF GAS AND IT LOOKED LIKE SALAD OIL. HE DRAINED IT ALL AND USED INJECTOR CLEANER. THE CAR RAN PERFECTLY AND THE TOTAL COST WAS $45. IT SEEMS I BOUGHT A TANK OF BAD GAS; DROVE A MILE TO HOME; LET THE CAR SIT OVERNITE; THE WATER AND CRUD SETTLED TO THE BOTTOM; THE NEXT MORNING I HAD A VERY ROUGH ENGINE! I HOPE THIS IS WHAT YOU HAVE BECAUSE IT IS SO CHEAP AND EASY TO FIX. GOOD LUCK.
...maybe these "AC" plugs are not really AC but made in some country that doesn't really respect trademarks...send them back and ask for a refund...they should stand by their product
I've had several AC plugs that were bad, switched to NGK's never a problem with them... Just my .02 :)
Couldn't agree more with Andy. I had a really bad experience with ac's and switched to nkg's and my problems with plugs went away. I like the champions as well.
