Default 427 crank

Just taken a 351 engine I have had for some time apart to check it has been rebuilt properly, all ok but has a 6223 crank . Books tell me this is a 396 crank, do I need to find a 7115 crank or will it work ok.

The 396 and 427's have the same stroke, 3.76. I'd have to double check the numbers but I'm pretty sure I've got a #6223 Forged crank for my 427.

Thanks Mike, You're up early, it's 2-20 pm here in England, so about 6-20 am in CA. Yes same stroke and journal sizes, but the books are saying the counterweights on the 427 crank are heavier to balance the heavier pistons. Don't want to put the crank back and build the engine and put it in the restored 67 coupe only to find it does not work, don't want to have to pull the engine out of the finished car, would rather do it once.

Years ago I read the same thing regarding counterweight differences so I took a peek at my stock 427 crank in my '69. (I have the original engine safely stored away while I wear out my track engine.) I pulled the pan and it said 6223 on it, and I put a lot of hard trouble-free miles on it before storing it away. I can't explain away what the publications say, but 6223 cranks are used in original 427s too.

Thankyou for that. I am 68 so won't be driving it like I stole it, so it seems that I will be ok then.
