Hey guy's, I just thought I would stop in and say hey, and I would also like to hear from all the LS swapping guy's about what they used for their long tube headers needs, since the C2 and C3 chassis are very similar.
I have installed a set of Melrose headers after having to modify them for the steering stem to be able to pass by the number one cylinder tube. After modifying and installing the Melrose LS swap C3 headers, I find that these headers were a bad choice for my LS swap. They hang down too low beneath the car and drag the ground just about every where.
Has any one come up with a good setup like taking a set of big block headers and changing the flanges over to the LS flange style, I also read on another forum that the ford 302 headers have the proper spacing for the LS flange.
What have you guy's found to be a better answer to the Long tube header blues?
1coolc2 made his own. There is not a set of full length that I could find short of building a set. The problem is the adapter plate on LS (interference) and the other problem is being tight to T56 tranny.
Speed & Performance makes a set of mid length headers that fit. But no full length.
I tried to get stainless works to make a patterned set but they didn't seem interested. They built from my S& P mid length back.
Riggs, it looks like we are SOL on these. I think I am just gong to have my welder guy cut these headers up and "fix" them. Seems like the best thing to do. Never would have bought them knowing what I know now.
Rzepka_r, That Chassis is a really great looking setup you have there, But as far as the headers, those wouldn't fit my setup since I am running a 4L70E auto trans.
firstgear, Thanks for the Info, I was hoping for better news.
Gordon, I'm not giving up yet, I hope to come up with something soon. I will cut mine down if it comes down to that, I just want to exhaust every other opportunity before going that route. It's hard to believe that no one is marking a good quality set of headers for the C2&3 LSX swaps.
I bought hooker header side pipe long tubes for SBC and bent the tubes to line up with the LS flange. The passenger side was easy. The driver side I had to cut and weld new bends for a couple primaries due to my custom steering setup and wanting to keep the z-bar manual clutch setup.
You can see my headers here....how far they come down. This photo was taken when Stainless Works was making my exhaust system. I didn't go with SW to make me a set of full length headers, that was another pile of money and I decided that I was better off staying with the S&P headers I had already bought. This gives you an idea....
