How far could you go if an engine was bore .030 already before you have to deck it and sleve it, if you wanted to?
You can go to .060 , but you should do a sonagram to make sure you have thickness between walls. You may only have to go to .040.
My original l-79 is at .060 and I just put on 34,000 miles in the last 2 years. It has over 300,000 miles on it with original , crank, rods, heads and only burns 1 qt of oil every1,500 miles.
Why do you have to sleeve it ? Unless you have damaged walls...
The block is in the machine shop as we speak i hope to find out today how much they will bore out. I just threw out that question to see what if, needs to be done . I don't think i would have go the decking route. I want to keep this original, at any cost. Just looking for options from the guys that know. Thank you

First, you don't give what motor you're talking about, they are all different. Some have thicker walls, and some years are more uniform in their thickness of the walls. The old 283's could be safely taken out to +120 over size! But, as Jack say, you have to do a sonic check for uniformity. Even 2 blocks from the same year can have varying cylinder walls. All major rebuilds should include checking the surface to see if it needs to be decked or not.
