Since my Corvette is in the process of being painted, I figured it would be a good time to replace the original windshield. Am I correct in thinking the whole windshield frame needs to be removed to replace the glass?
Don't be surprised when you find the tabs on the side posts broken when you take it apart. They always seem to be, but they can be welded back on if you Have or know of a good welder. And you are correct, it's not a fun job. Make sure you mark where all the screws go. Otherwise you may have to replace the glass twice.... Guess how I know about that. . Enjoy and take your time and it will be OK.
Get yourself a copy of the ST-12 Corvette service guide, it has a good detailed section of the R&R (and will be very usefull for many other repairs along the way). I did mine following that guide when I painted the car and it came out great. Use the Corvette Rubber windshield gasket for best results. Pilot Dan
Here is a repaired windshield tab...If you are pulling the windshield then decide right now if you need a new dash pad...if its even close to bad now is the time to replace it as the new vinyl MUST go under the windshield frame for proper installation !!!!

All great advice.....
While you are at it, I would have the posts re-chromed if there is pitting. It is a bit expensive since the posts are pot metal, but now is the time to get it all taken care of.
i didn't find installing teh glass and assembling the windshield very hard,,, i started out with windshield posts that had broken tabs, and under cut them 1/4", than made 1/4" thick tabs out of ss and mounted them with flat head screws... i scrounged teh swap meets and carlisle for the missing surround pieces and made the straps that hold it all together,, got it assembled on teh 1st try,,,
i used teh st-12 as a guide, its really well detailed....

Also a good time to get the stainless pieces polished and flash chromed.

So, what method did you do to repair? Looks like machined and installed some set screws, correct? I am hoping to get at this project this week...don't know what I will find til I find it! Once I get it off the car, I will know more, and will probably have more questions.
Thanks to all who have commented-it is appreciated.
