Default Engine block advise 427

I have a bare block 942 427. I took the block to the engine shop that I deal with.I asked to Mag the block, check the cylinder bores . All is well with the block just hone the cylinders ,the block is .060. Now the block has had the deck ringed around each cylinder and I asked about removing the rings. My engine guy said he would file the rings to the surface without having any problems with head gaskets leaking. Is this the correct thing to do, he seamed very confident with this fix. Has anyone done something like this or what else can be done if anything.
Thanks,Wes

sounds like you have a block that was "o" ringed for racing or a blower application.....any competent machine shop can work with this.....

I'd have to wonder how he is doing this. Sounds like he might deck the block, so if you have any valuable numbers on the stamp pad, they will be gone.

I odn't like the sounds of this.....how is he going to ensure the o-ring will not pop out during machining?
In fact they could come out at anytime.

The only real fix is to surface the O-ring groove out. Most O-ring wire is .041 stainless piano wire....decking the block .020 would be a viable option.

You could deck it .020....and measure the height....there are many different .051 or thicker head gaskets available to get back piston to head if need be.

I would leave the 'O rings alone and use a copper head gasket with it....someone had this done to prevent gasket blow out......you can replace any one of them if damaged or nicked....it should be a trouble free engine now.....just make sure the gasket is not inside of the .060 over bore

I agree. The rings, if properly installed, only improve the head sealing.
