I've replaced the battery 3 times, new starter, new battery cables, etc........sometimes when I try to start my car, it has nothing....not even a click. Now here's the curious thing, when I put a jump on the car, it starts right up. I just can't figure this one out.
Anyone have a good suggestion for me??????
Check all the ground wire connections and the wires themselves...all of them. Check the wire harness firewall connector under the master cyl. These spade connectors can and do get corrosion. Add some modern tech, get an electronic voltage regulator. Dennis
Why would you need to replace the battery 3 times would be my first question???? Would they not accept a charge (shorted), or were they just run down?
If your car will start with a jump it indicates a weak battery. You may have a short somewhere or a bad diode in the alternator that drawing it down. Try this, get a battery charger (if you don't already have one) and bring the battery up to full charge. Drive the car for a few days BUT make sure you disconnect the battery overnight in between. If it starts up normally, you need to check the Alternator and VR output to verify proper charging and then move on to troubleshooting the wiring. Pilot Dan

I would guess you have a weak/faulty connection somewhere as previously posted. If your "jump" is coming from another car and the engine is running on that car, the alternator is putting out more voltage than your static battery charge and that overides the bad connection.
