Default mecum auto auction

did anyone else watch the mecum auction last night and see the
63 black swc with black lacquer paint go for $175,000.00.

Someone must have more money than brains??

i admit is was a very nice car but not worth nowhere near $175,000.00

it was nothing special just a small block 340 hp 327.

unbeleivable what some people will pay ? must be nice to have that
kind of money to throw around??

anyway makes me want to keep my little red smallblock 66 coupe.

I went out on Tuesday and looked at all the cars. I saw the 63 Blk SWC it was a nice little car but it is like you said not worth that kind of $$$. I may go back out Sat or Sunday.

Yeah, I agree, nice car but not worth that chunk of change. I guess the owner had the bucks and really liked the car. I don't think it was an investor.....

I looked the car over thoroughly it was a nice car, but had been hit in the right front and left rear (good repair), had a poor restamp, and it appeared that they had to repair birdcage rust (looked like the trim tag was freshly re-riveted and the vin tag was re-welded onto the proper place.)

The car went for ridiculous money, and it had no documentation or paperwork.

The following quotes are directly from the Auction Description:
"professional no expense spared body-off restoration"............."original matching numbers drivetrain and factory original trim and VIN tag"............."ready for concours judging"

My only comment is that different people can have very different opinions.

by chance did you see the 67 blue 435 that went for 145k? on the internet, the listing indicated the car had original paint. i was wondering what the paint looked like after 45 years?

1.- The Tim Partridge 57 # P3 Sebring car. NO SALE at $175000. It was very late in the sale, and the TV guys did no help presenting the car properly. There is more story on the car. The master cylinder brake system is very unique.

2.- The 57 white AIR BOX sold for $322,500 after it went to the after sale desk with a 300 bid. Car recently came out of CANADA, vin 5116. Originally from the Larry Gerring Collection 1998-2005 era, and sold at BJ in 2006. Car went to Dick Robinson shop in Pensylvania in 2010 for fibeglass repair. There is more story on this car. Rumor mill on Sunday was Terry at Pro Team bought it.

3.- 58 Frost blue, hardtop, no heater-radio RPO 684 Fuelie SOLD for 145 plus fees. I learned Sunday it was the same seller as the 57 air box car. Would love to find the new owner.

4.- a 68 blue L-88 convert with vinyl hardtop only. SOLD for $600. A well known car, with many NCRS, BLOOMINGTON and CHEV-VETTEFEST AWARDS.

5.- a 63 SWC black / black restored no radio coupe with a 340hp engine SOLD for $175 on Thursday night. Not sure what this was about, but the value of 63 SWC's surely will be affected.

6.- a 63 Black / Saddle leather 340hp ''Survivor- Bowtie'' one owner car until 2006 sold for $56000 plus fees. All original, scratchy paint but looked real to the thumb screw master cylinder.

Generally prices were good. They said over $16 m, and 2200 cars. DANA'S 25TH EDITION. He and his wife ''POPPED'' out of the cake !!

I love the fact that an L88 Corvette brought more than a ZL1 Camaro and a 289 Cobra.

Anybody see the Maroon 67, 327/350, Tan top and interior go for $62,500.00 on Saturday afternoon. FYI, I did the top and interior on that car. Seemed like it was a fair price for a fresh body off resto.

If it was? I sure wouldn't want him managing my money!

Unless the car was owned by Elvis and Neil Armstrong? This "investor" is going to lose his a$$!

I remember watching one of the auctions at Carlisle years ago and it seemed to me the well known dealers were all bidding on and "buying" each others cars......
