How many of you guys and or gals added an electric fan to your C1 or C2 to help it run cooler during the hot days or for driving it in parades?

I added an electric fan and took off the stock fan. It is a 2700 cfm curved blade unit that is mounted behind my fantastic Dewitts radiator.

I still run the stock fan blade, but I mounted twin 8" pusher fans in front of the DeWitts radiator. It has a thermostat to automatically kick in, but I also wired it to run manually of the switch when I want it to. It helps a lot and you can't see the fans through the grille unless you get down and look for them.

I have a 'BeCool' radiator on mine. I use a flex fan and an extra 'puller' electric fan on the engine side of the radiator. I have it switched so I can turn it on at will. Works very well in traffic situations.

I just stopped being in parades. I'll see how things are this summer, but don't expect any problems. Dennis

Mike,

When I added Classic Auto Air it came with 2 pusher fans that attach in front of the condenser which is in front of the radiator (DeWitt's). The fans are wired to only go on when the air conditioning is switched on. I changed that by adding a rheostat device which automatically turns the fans on based on a temp setting which you dial in. Here's a pic of the rheostat which gets it's temperature from the probe placed under the upper radiator hose. Works really well.

I`m strictly a OE person, no aftermarket trick parts on my toys.....they don't overheat and that includes my BB and SB pieces......never overheated straight from their respective factory's....No secret, just don't try to over engineer those that made them.......

I thought about it quite a bit as I was in a parade yesterday, watching the temp needle creep up. As soon as I got back on the road and was driving steadily, it cooled right off. I'll be watching this thread for people's thoughts about adding a fan

Have considered it but have not pulled the trigger yet. I just don't do parades. Stop and go traffic is a problem too, like trying to get to the Carlisle Fairgrounds in the morning. My '66 will overheat if she's not getting some wind through the radiator.

If I did it, I'd put in the twin electric fans ahead of the radiator. I like the thermostat suggestion from others. Takes all the guess-work out of the equation.

I mounted the motor aand blade assembly from ja Blackmagic fan in a custom shroud, and run it with a Derale control.

I never have to look at the temp gauge anymore.

No problems in 36 years with the stock setup, other than a faulty stat and change of waterpump.

Cars that require electric fans to run where they were designed to run usually have an unaddressed underlying issue. My big block and both small block cars run 180 all day long in any conditions with a Dewitt's radiator and stock clutch fans. Not a big fan of parades and prolonged idling but the cars won't overheat

Default To fan, or not to fan, that is the ques....

I have a 66 coupe with a 327/350. The car is black/black and I live in central Florida. I added a Vintage Air system and have a Dewitts rad. I also have all of the correct shrouds and seals as well as a new fan clutch and 7 blade fan. With that said, I instaled a pusher fan in front of the A/C condensor. Since I use 134a, the head pressure is higher than R-12. That being said, keeping the condensor as cool as possible will make the A/C system run more efficiently. I installed a switch inside the car to turn on the fan during stop and go traffic. If you go this route, make sure you get a slim fan. A thicker fan may cause problems with the hood in the open position. Jerry

In my 60 I have an original v-cell recore radiator, engine driven 5 blade fan, 160 degree pressure balanced thermostat and Evans waterless coolant and I never see a temp above 180 degrees, even in 100 degree weather in stop and go beach traffic, I have never had it get warm in a parade or idling for a extended period of time.

My Dewitt's and the spal work perfect. The car can sit running and never overheats. I also have Classic Auto Air with two more fans in front. It just say's locked on the thermostat temp all the time. I can tell with the A/C on that when the thermostat opens all that air moving is actually more than needed.

OR they have air conditioning and get driven on the highway in 100F weather. I can sit in a parade on a 100F day with a-c running by the hour.
