To Swap Engine or Not
I have a 66 coupe 427/425. It currently has the original 4 speed and rear end. It currently has a 454/425 hp crate motor in it. I have the original 427 rebuilt and on a motor stand. I haven't worried about putting the original motor in it because the 454 runs good and I didn't want to scratch the paint or damage anything in swapping the motor. Well that's all changed because my local tire store didn't put my locking pins in the left front knock off and the wheel came off after 8 miles and busted my fender. So now it's time to paint. I can't decide if it would be better to put the 427 back in the car or leave the 454 in it. I do like seeing the 427 sitting on the motor stand in the garage but it seems like it deserves to be in the car. Anyway, any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks!!!

Put the 427 engine back in where it belongs and sell the 454!
Someday you or your close relatives may decide to sell the car... and if they do, those looking to buy may see the extra engine as a burden that has to be stored somewhere and/or the expense of having it put back in.
I've notice that many of the new midyear buyers have no automotive experience at all, so everything has to be done by a mechanic..

I would run the 454 and keep the 427 fresh on the sidelines

Thanks for all the input. Yes, tire store taking responsibility for the damage. 90% of me goes with the idea that its just a car and no one got hurt. The other 10% is pissed that my car is damamged!!! At least so far the store is taking responsibility. I called their insurance agent and I am waiting on an adjuster to look at it. I really don't rip on this car. It gets driven less than 800-1000 miles a year. In fact, I don't drive any of my vettes much so I am thinking that the 427 should be where it belongs which is in the car. My father-in-law has a 48 5 window GMC truck which I think I could talk him out of and that would be a good place for the 454. Less than 5000 miles on 454 so I wouldn't have to rebuild it.
