Default body mount thickness

Just wondering how thick the body mounts are for a c2. I am going to do a test run putting the body on the frame and forgot to order mounts. I was thinking of just sticking some wood blocks in there. My back wheels and tires look giant so we will see if they fit or I need widened qaurters. I also cant remember much about the back trailing arms. I can take the wheel and move it in and out at the top probably 3-4 inches. Everything is brand new. I am trying to tuck the tire as close to the frame as possible and with this thing moving around it makes it tough. Maybe when its on the ground this isnt a problem? Thanks

Tom – there’s not a simple answer to your question and it would help if you filled out your profile so we know what year you are asking about?

Take a look at these diagrams:

https://www.paragoncorvette.com/down...tions/1461.pdf

Most of the body mount locations use a combination of cushions and shims – hopefully you recorded the shim counts when you removed the body? If not, a number of threads have been written on the topic and it is a separate subject.

Looking at the #1 body mount in the diagrams above, the item 2 shims were used to fill the gap when the cowl assembly was bonded to the birdcage and should be left as is unless the cowl has been removed. The item 7 cushion is an aluminum disk approximately 7/16” thick and the item 6 shim(s) is a nominal 1/16” thick (as are all shims, square and U-shaped).

The #2 body mount has no cushion, only shim(s).

The #3 body mount uses a cushion/washer/sleeve assembly and shims. The cushion/washer measures approximately 9/16” thick uncompressed, plus some number of shims.

The #4 body mount uses a similar cushion/washer/sleeve and shims. Again the cushion/washer measure approximately 9/16” plus shims.

I have no experience with the ’63-64 inboard mount so I can’t help you there if needed.

As for your trailing arms, it sounds like you have no shims installed? Here is a link that might help set the track and toe for the rear wheels:

I have a 64 with 67 frame. Do you think I could get away with just putting half inch blocks at mount #3 and #4. Not going to be driving it. As for the trailing arms, they are shimed and tight. I will post pics tommorow if I have time. Thanks

For rough fit purposes, 1/2-3/4 inch blocks should work. If your body had the '64 inboard mount, I'm not sure what kind of stresses (if any) will result from mounting on a frame without the mount? Maybe someone else can chime it.

If your trailing arm shims are in and tight, and assuming the struts are installed, the wheel movement must be coming from loose camber cam bolts.

Thanks for the info. I will just throw some half inch blocks in. My car didnt have the center mount to start with( it prob should) so I wont worry about it. The trailing arm are tight. The movement comes from the bushings. They are vpandb offset arms with poly bushings. Maybe I go to the gym to much and I am yanking on them too hard. I have never restored a vette before and wasnt working with much when I started so all your guys help is great. Thanks
