Grand Sport Corvette....Getting Better All The Time
I've made a few updates to the article on my car. Most relate to suspension and there are a couple pics of the "big" engine I'm building:

Dad
Larry,
Sorry to hear about your father. He most certainly lived a interesting life.
I was a B52 crew chief in the 60's. Remembered my thoughts about seeing the B58 Hustler in person,
"looked like it was going supersonic just sitting on the ramp"

I was nine years old when the B58 rolled out. My Father made the mistake of showing me pre-roll out pictures of the plane. I got into trouble for drawing pictures of the plane and selling them to my class-mates in elementry school...
The B58 was the sexiest airplane ever built.
I remember when Dad went for a ride in the F111 which was another of "his" babies. The test pilot (Dick Johnson) said they flew mach1 at 100 feet altitude most of the trip.....It was no wonder that Dad lost a lot of interest in fast cars after that experience!

Thank all of you for your complements and thoughts.
I spent yesterday removing small dings in the used 1985 C4 lower control arms I'm going to put on the car. I got a little carried away, and removed all of the parting line flash, so they now have a "smooth" look. I'll probably make some sleeves to protect the inner bushing bores and shot-peen them, prior to painting them. I just don't like seeing them under the front, so some black paint will help make them "invisible".
Aside from the narrowed front suspension and new engine, I still have a long list of things I want to do....some vintage Porsche-style seats to provide more support, modify the Tremec for an easier 2-3 upshift at high RPM, narrow the rear suspension, manufacture a few plastic instrument bezels that incorporate the Classic instruments I'm running, determine once and for all what wheel/tire combination I "need"...and it'll never end....
Sam, are there any good pictures of your car? I'd sure like to see more of it.

I spent Saturday removing the dings and parting flash from the 1984 lower control arms. We also milled the lower coil-over mounts from billet aluminum. Theit bottom contour is exactly the same as the void in the lower control arms. Once I cut off their "ears", they will be ready to go.
After we shot-peed the control arms, we will bolt and epoxy the mounts in place, and then paint all of it black so they don't attract attention under the car.
These arms with the lower shock mounts are 1.8lbs lighter than the late-model C4 pieces that are on the car right now....

Interesting project, Larry. Are you going to use the early spindle supports also?

There's a 1.90" difference in length between the early and late control arms. I'm going with the early spindle supports as well. Upper control arms are fully-adjustable SPC units with their "street" inner bushings.
Wilwood is also making the 6-piston calipers for the early spindles.

I find it odd that my new d&d GS uses the wide suspension system and it has 9.5 inch wide wheels and 245/70/17 on the front but the wheel and tire lines up perfectly with the outer lip of the front fenders. I have noticed some mongoose and other GS the front tires stick out past the front lip a little too
On my wide car the upper a arm mounts are 32 inches apart and the narrow car they are 28 inches apart. I am curious, How does that compare to yours?
Jeff

Wizzard:
Given you have to make a new exhaust system for your GS. Will you be selling your current exhaust?
I have a MAI Chassis that will house a LS3 with a T-56 Keisler Dog Box. Would there be any reason why it wouldn't work on my car?
Also, will you need to change the clutch as well for the new engine? If it will fit, I might have a place for it, especially since you thought it was the best match for Street driving.
Give me a shout.
Ty O'Neal
Do you still have a decent supply of door hinges as well?
