Default Is this a starter issue?

I have a 1959 vette with a 327. I run a standard gm starter with HEI.
The last few times out on a cruise after I have been stopped for a short time, I will turn the key to start the motor and I get nothing-no clicking at all. Turn the key off and then back to start and the car starts right up.
This only happens after I have run the car for a while. When starting the car the first time of the day the problem is not there.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

With the limited information given, my opinion the problem isn't the starter motor. Does anything else work when you turn the key to "on"? Like the radio, dash gauges, heater blower, wipers, etc.

I agree with Mike on this one. If it was the starter from heat soak, the car wouldn't start by simply turning off the key and then back on. It sounds more like the ignition switch.

I do not know if anything else works when this problem occurs.
I will have to try to recreate the nonstart and then check to see what is or is not working.

Thanks
Paul

it could be ign switch related, or solenoid going bad,,, if its an automatic,, could be neutral safety switch, or starter relay,, if it has them,,, not sure how your car is set up.....
