im having trouble with the brakes on this 67 vette. the whole system has been replaced and bled several times, brake lines, master cylinder, booster, proportioning valve, calipers and pads. after bleeding the brakes im still running into the problem of the rear brakes locking up before the front brakes. any advice would be appreciated.
there is no blockage, everything bleeds out well.
This may be very elementary, but are the lines into the bottom of the proportion block reversed? Front sys to the front port, rear to the back port. Dennis
that is not a proportioning valve . its just a pressure switch for the dummy light in the dash. the M/C does the proportioning
You're right but those things can get gummed up inside and cause lots of problems with front/rear distribution and never turn the light on on the dash.

Need some more info.........what master cylinder do you have on the car, do you have manual brakes or power brakes, whose calipers and hoses were installed (were your old calipers resleeved, new calipers, etc.)??
Disc brakes should not "lock up".......although drum brakes will. What does the car do when braking easy and braking hard?? Does it pull, not slow down quickly enough, or??
Larry
EDIT: Also check out earlier thread on 1966 with braking problems. Some good info that might help. About 20 threads below yours at this time....by Jerry Antczak.

A 67 Corvette uses the same M/C whether vacuum assisted or not.
Disc brakes will most certainly "lock up"!

I understand this. I was trying to find out if we needed to consider/evaluate a power brake booster in this installation and problem.
Discs are not self energizing like drum brakes, so they don't normally "lock up" unless the pressure cannot be relieved back through the master cylinder due to plugging or restriction somewhere in the system. Do you agree, or is there something I need to learn?? How can they normally "lock up" by themselves?? I haven't seen it.

Slideshow: A Jaguar designer's personal project imagines what a modern front-engined Corvette might look like if Chevrolet revisited the golden age of the Stingray.
