Default Body On

Taking the body off my 66 by myself was tricky, but putting it back on by myself was some next level S*#!
This was every bit as much fun as it looks.

You wouldn't happen to be David Copperfield? . . . can't figure out from the photo how that body is suspended!!!

Looks like you're making great progress . . . as someone who has alos done a body off in my own garage, I can tell you it will be worth all of the aggravation! Keep going!

Default balanced

Here is how I tied it, balanced pretty good but I would NOT suggest doing this unless you have no other choice.
lifted with a come along that was anchored to the concrete beam across my garage
I have pulled several engines and trans combos with this rig, figured it could handle the body. Problem was not the weight, it was the wind blowing the body around as I was trying to get the frame slid under the body.

I like the way you lifted the body on the front mounts. I didn't think of that when I lifted mine with the dash in. I wrapped around the front body which I did not like to do, and used the rear interior mounts as you did.
Dontcha want to keep the doors closed on a convertible?

Nice pictures. Very ingenious way to lift / hold body.

Can you update your profile to let us know where you live. I am certain that some folks on here might live in the area and would have been glad to come by to assist.

Just sayin,
RK

By yourself?

Wow... that is tough. I would have thought somebody local to you would have wanted to help out.

I used a similar setup about 20 years ago when building a Cobra replica other than I had vinyl encased cables tied to rubber coated hooks that I had on the exterior wheelwells. You could raise/lower the body in just a couple of minutes.

I dropped the body on my 64 a couple weekends ago by myself. Its a real treat trying to line everything up as you lower it. I used a engine hoist and a corvette body sling. It was tough keeping the front end from nose diving into the driveway. Your device looks like it keeps it pretty even.

Hi Guys,
Sorry for the late reply, getting ready to move into a new house. Little crazy at the moment.
I will try to get my profile updated, As of next week will be living in Ft. Myers Florida.
Sub006,
Yep that's a 72 Pantera wide body. Just sold it but no worries, I have another
Revfan
I actually had help lined up but I got ahead of myself and before you know it I was ready before they were.

I did think things through, but more than that, I was lucky.
I should have tied off a safety tether so if anything failed, I would not have gotten hurt. I did have my cell phone in my back pocket to call 911 if I needed. I also should have tied the the back of the body to something in the garage to keep it from spinning when the wind blew. This was the biggest problem, every time I let loose of the body to adjust the frame, the body would move. Pain in the ....you know.
I will say this, I was very suprised at how well balanced the car was (front to back) when connecting at the lower door hinge. Only needed a little tension at the back to balance it out.
after I get settled in the new place, will start block sanding and get some color on her.

You too?

That's some good work getting the body on by yourself. Doing that must have been very time consuming not to mention tedious.
