Default C2 Windshield Trim

'm working on getting the windshield in my '66 coupe and started by pre-fitting the SS trim. With the WS out and new clips I don't seem to be able to get the trim in so it looks right. I ran across an instruction on the Paragon site that recommends cutting a series of small Vs in the reinforcing rib to improve fit. Has anyone tried that method?

I took out the windshield on my car just to have a look at the window frame
I changed the weatherstrip seal, clips and screws.

I read a lot about it before i did the job. Note that i did this on a coupe and it is different clips on a coupe and convertible

I was told to use clips from Paragon. The weatherstrip seal i bought from Ecklers.

When installing a new weatherstrip the new seal it will be a bit thicker than the old one and that makes it a more difficult to put the windshield stainless trim on correct.

Me and a friend put on the stainless trim on the car before the windshield was in place just to make sure everything was fitting okay after it was removed from the car.

The trim was flush and perfect without the windshield seal.
After the windshield/seal was in place it took some careful twisting and turning to have the stainless trim laying flush and correct.

So just try a little careful twist and turn on the stainless trim and it will fit.

What makes it a little difficult to put on the stainless trim is because of the new thicker windshield seal.

If i was going to do this job now i would not put any sealant on before the windshield is in place and not do it as we did and put the sealant on the windshield seal

You should polish the stainless trim while it is off the car

I've done basically the same thing. Used a cutoff wheel to cut several slots in the rib to get the corner section to sit flush. The cuts were only maybe 75% deep in the rib to retain some rigidity and avoid folding. Took about 4 or 5 cuts and problem solved!

Sometimes, moving or adding a clip is needed to get a flush fit at the corners...

Default Thanks

Rodger and Mike,

Thanks for your insights. I was afraid to start grinding on my trim until I had someone tell me that they had done it. The idea of adding a couple of extra clips seems like a good idea too.ince I saved all my old clips I guess I'll clean them up and reuse a some of them.

I would not recommend re-using the clips, and be sure that you get the new ones through Paragon as I think they are the only guys who sell the the correct type. As you know they are buried once the glass is in and it's a b--ch to change them. Another thing I found when I did mine was that many of the screw holes won't hold. Just re-drill 1/4" left or right from the old hole, but be very careful that they are the same depth from the frame edge.

Good Luck!

I've ordered both the clips and screws from Paragon.

Did you ever get your AC assembled and working?

New clips and screws for sure. Once the windshield is in place, you should be able to get the trim pcs in place without modifying anything at all. The windshield gsket from Corvette Central fit fine and was not oversized. The side pcs only need twisted slightly to get them to fit underneath the header and lower piece. Take your time and go slowly. You'll do just fine.

I am just missing a few parts but i will put on new brake lines and disc brakes on all 4 wheels first.
I have had the parts ready for the disc brake convertion for over 2 years so i guess it is time to finally get the disc brakes on.
It is just that i am not looking forward to replace the front to rear brake line
