That's correct; the long (1-3/4") TO bearing was never used in a Corvette.

I spoke to Carolina Clutch today which is where I bought it from. They said the pressure plate that was supposed to be in thi kit was to be a "tall" plate, so they asked me to find the numbers that are stamped on the plate with a mirror. So, I have the numbers and will call tomorrow to see what I have. I'll let you all know what the final verdict is and what fix we use.
Thanks for everyone's help.

Now I'm getting frustrated! Carolina Clutch told me the numbers were correct for the pressure plate so they recommended that I get a long throw out bearing. None of the local auto stores could help so I called Jegs and spoke to someone in their tech dept. He sold me the bearing that I needed and it arrived Wed. I had a house project I was working on so I waited until this afternoon to pull the trans and replace the bearing. So I get the new bearing in place and I'm trying to slide the trans back in but it won't go! After several failed attempts I realize the trans is hung up on the bearing, the inside diameter of the new throw out bearing is too small!!!! So now I have to wait till Monday to call Jegs and find out what the heck is going on. This little project has turned into a major pain in the a$$!

i think you are going to find that the long to bearing isn't the answer,,,,the longer ball stud should solve your problem.... i tried everything you've mentioned so far on the 68,,, ball stud worked perfectly... gm still lists them, if you can find teh number....

Just in case I needed it I did order an adjustable pivot ball from Jegs so I will try that tomorrow. I sure hope your right knockbill.

Finally!!!
I installed the adjustable pivot ball and it worked, the clutch feels great. Thanks to everyone who made suggestions, I can't thank you all enough.
And racecar14, I put the new radiator in and today even in 99 degree weather it never made it to 180!

Been reading your thread cause I just ran into the same problem on my 65 Vette. Did you get the adjustable pivot from Napa or the Jeg's one? How did you make the adjustments once installed?

I bought the one from Jegs as my Napa store sucks. I answered your pm on how I determined length. You can also use knockbill's size of 1 11/16
