Well how do I start this? Harley Earl was the person who designed and brought the CORVETTE to life I know. I know it may not have been the real sports car that the American public wanted and GM did not handle the promotion of it real well in 1953 thru 1955 by giving away most all the 1953 Corvettes to people like John Wayne and so on but is it just because Zora came up with a bigger motor and racing the Vette that makes everyone think he is the man behind the Corvette when it was really Harley Earl. What do you guys think?
I think Harley can be credited with the idea of a sports car, and Zora can be credited with turning Harley's idea of a sports car INTO a sports car . . . .
I agree, without Zora, the Corvette was due for cancellation.
In Dec 1953, Zora wrote a paper to GM exec's explaining the importance of Corvette with the youth, hot rodding and Chevrolet. He spoke about the high performance car culture and the use of Corvette as a Halo car. He saved the car and made it as good as the bean counters would allow him.
