Default Hello

Hello all My Name is Michael I have just joined the forum
I live in Perth Western Australia
I have just become obsessed with the 58-60 corvette C1
Currently I own A Xy gt ford ( a highly collectable Australian muscle car)
but am seriously looking at selling it to purchase a 58-60 vette.
Here in lies the question the prices I am seeing a huge price variation in these models.
I first started looking at the hemmings website and the prices were from 45 -145 k whereas other sites I have found what appear to be good condition examples from 20- 40k.
What would be the average price members of this forum think those particular models would be for a honest driver in good condition.

I am not chasing a show car or a car with heavy modifications as I would not be allowed to import a heavily modded car into Australia anyway

Regards
Michael

Michael, I think the folks in the C1/C2 forum can help you with that, so I'm moving your thread to that forum.

I hope that's not the way of things to come over here.

Condition/originality/modifications and a lot of variables determine how a car is priced. And don't forget the intangibles involved like willingness to negotiate, motivation/need to sell. These are only some of the factors in the equation when it comes to pricing/selling/buying.

Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum, as for a 58 to 60, the prices would vary depending on condition and options. I would suggest that you check for pricing here on the C1 C2 cars for sale section as well as other american vettes for sale sites. You could do maybe in the low 30s right up to over 100 grand, depending, a decent driver with min mods if you can find it may run on average 30 to 50 grand. JMHO

Michael.. Welcome to CF like oldsarge has said, depending on the condition you are looking for in a 58-60 honest driver, the range could be from the low 30K to the upper 50k. JMHO

Based on the description of what you wanted, I'd say in the range of $30k to $50k USD.

You have got to find one in Australia and test drive before pulling triger on importing. C 1 are great but remember 50+ years old .

Welcome!
I actually think a nice driver will start maybe around $35,000, but most likely higher $30's say around $37 to $39,000 up into $50's. Anything less than $35,000 is going to need a lot of work. Just my thoughts.

Thanks for the reply's it was hard trying to get a indication of prices
Sites like vette hound had a really nice 60 for sale full resto for 20k in Florida sounded like a scam but all there cars seemed to be cheaper than other sites prices.
Unfortunately we have had a major crackdown in Australia we have whats called pre 89 import allowances.
Basically this means we can bring any pre 89 car into Australia as long as it has not been heavilly modified.
This system was being abused by hot rodders bringing fiberglass bodied rods over and saying they were a 32 ford etc when in fact they were brand new cars.
Since then you cant bring over anything that has a larger engine than factory or major suspension upgrades or brake upgrades.
So it will most likely be a stock 283 for me.
The government has severely over reacted with the toughening of the rules.

Funny thing is I rang the department which makes the rules and they confirmed if I bring over a car with heavy modifications and pull the modded parts off before shipping
There is nothing to stop me shipping those parts over as long as they are not on the same vessel as the car and the car clears customs first bureaucracy gone mad!!!

In regards to finding out what I can expect what a 58- 68 vette will drive like it cant be much worse than my GT it is 40 years old no power steering big tyres big cam and big carb if you dont keep the revs up it will stall when you drive off but I still love it

WELCOME TO THE FORUM from a Canuck ...gooday mate, hope you are not over 5'-10" as C1's tend to be a tight fit...something to consider

Thanks Geoff & outlaw 67
At this stage I have to wait on the sale of my current toy to finance the vette
Still will be at least 2 months away as yet before I can start seriously looking.
I just am testing the waters at this stage I joined the forum to start doing my homework.
I have been recommended a Guy in Florida that checks out cars and helps out with shipping to Australia.
Would still probably try to source a car in California if I can to reduce shipping costs
