Default Help validating original 107 ignition coil

After a long and painful search, I am very close to purchasing an original 9115107 ignition coil for my 58 fuelie.

Since this is going to cost me an arm and a leg, I want to be sure it is a real deal.

Unfortunately, I can't seem to find any decent pics of an original 107 to compare. I also am having difficulty finding someone that has actually seen enough of these coils to point out how to recognize an original from a repro. The coil is in excellent condition.

Any pics of an original 107 or someone to contact to validate it is the real deal would be greatly appreciated.

In the Corvette Restorer Vol 21 #3 Ken Kayser wrote an intensive article on first & second generation coils complete with blueprint type drawings.

Kudos for recommending Ken. He has an incredible wealth of knowledge. This is a summary of what Ken told me:

The 57-62 Coil used the Bakelite Cap #1909206 (1st Design) and the center post was tapered (360 degrees all around) down to the attachment stud bosses. The original lock tabs on the studs had a prong that located in the small holes and kept it from rotating when the nut was tightened.

In mid-62, the Bakelite Cap became #1961864 (2nd Design) and the redesign added the two "rectangular bosses" next to the studs. The bosses kept the lock tab from turning. Somewhere after 62, the holes which held the prong were removed from the cap.

Based on this info, the 107 repro being sold is not correct. It is a later 2nd Design coil (i.e. after 62) that is not correct for any 57-62 FI vette.
