If I posted this once, I've posted it MANY times. To this day I DO NOT understand why Corvette people like to spend more money than what is necessary!
And NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO you CANNOT buy these at the local parts store (NAPA, O'Reilly, Autozone, etc, etc, etc) and they DO NOT cross over to any other bearing number!

Tapered Roller bearings like the ones in Tom's photo are a serious upgrade. They help with side loads, eliminate a lot of play in the front wheels, there is no negative to use these. BCA built these in the 60's and they became big in demand as an upgrade, they only dropped them because 90% of the cars using them were in the boneyard and no longer driving so demand fell off. It is great someone brought them back.

If you are thinking of converting to front disc brakes in the future, all the kits available come with new rotors that also include tapered roller bearings (but not the same sizes as what you would order for the original drum brake hubs).

Sooooooooooo, if you are contemplating a disc brake mod in the future, then don't waste your money on a roller upgrade to your 53-62 because those bearings won't fit a disc conversion.
I installed rollers years ago because I kept the drums and have since fabricated my own HD finned drum brakes. NO, for a fact, drums are not equal to disc brakes, BUT with my upgraded wider finned drums, the stopping power is better than the stock drums.
