hey,
My dad has a '67 vette and the tires are 25 years old. So as a saftey precaution we would like to put new tires on without replacing the wheels.
So... my question is what would be the best tires to get
TIA
What ever you do, don't drive the car to the tire shop, you might regret it. Do you want whitewalls or blackwalls, that will get you started, then see what the tire shop has to offer in the right size. I can't imagine you needing any hi-po tire.
Pirelli P4000 Super Touring, 215/70ZR-15. This is the best performance tire I know of that will fit your '67. The revs per mile specification is 775, which is the same as the OEM 7.75-15 bias plys, so your speedo/odo will remain in good calibration. The six inch Rally or bolt-on aluminum wheels are adequate width and the tires will not interfere with the body.
There are also V-rated police pursuit tires available in size 225/70R-15, 760 revs/mile,but they might not clear the body.
Go to http://www.tirerack.com and search under that size. You can check out all the 215/70s they offer and click on specs to get all the engineering info.
You could also check Pirellis web site ( http://www.pirelliusa.com I think) and any of the other manufacturers that offer this size.
With tires that old you can bet all you money they are dry rotted. That can equal "blowout" and that can equal___________. :( All it would take is to have to swerve or lock up the brakes, maybe just putting more air in if there low. Better to be safe than sorry!

Re: Tires (Deadhead)
Goodrich makes some great, affordable everyday Radials. On my 15x7" Torq Thrust D's I run 215/65 Comp TA's. For stock 67 Rally's their 215/70 Radial TA's would be a good choice.
I'd suggest checking out the local tire shops trying to find a "car guy" who is willing to help you and work with you. Many shops can special order most any brand tire for you, not just the brand on their Neon Sign.
One word, Michelin
Best deal? Costco.
Lifetime rotation & flat repair.
Plus best price around.
Thats it.
Take care! :smash: :smash: :smash:
