Default Engine Identification

My neighbour just bought a 66 B/B car and we are trying to determine where the engine came from.Casting # really hard to see at this point but last 3 charactors look like 289...casting date L9S1? ....Pad Vin.12556085 TO12CSP ..In book Chevrolet By The Numbers it looks like 454 Any comments. Thanks.

Probably 3999289 casting number, a 454 cu. in . engine. You've got a digit missing from the engine code ' TO12CSP'. Can't find a CSP.

CSR is a '72 Corvette 454 and the P <> R is an easy miss depending on how the stamp is.

That would jive with the '72 to '78 casting number of -289.

Of course, the TO12CSP could be a T0120SP but there are no -SP suffixes.

Clean well, double check, get a clear photo, and get back with us.
