I have a fresh 70's model LT1 .040 over 350, 11 to 1 pistons, Edelbrock Aluminum heads with Vortex Edelbrock intake. The rotating mass has also been balanced.
My engine bay needs to be cleaned up a bit; so I'm thinking I might do an engine swap and put the original 327/365 on the stand.
If I ever sold the car the engine would be swapped back.
What do others think, leave it stock or play a little bit. Also will I have clearance problems with the Vortex intake?

You have a matching numbers 327/365 that runs well and you want to change it?? Why look for problems when you have a high horsepower original engine. Clean up the engine bay and enjoy the ride. Of course, that's just my opinion
Sounds like a fun plan to me. Go for it. My situation is similar in that I have a matching #'s L79 in my 65. Next week I will be pulling it and installing a LS HO motor, Tremec TKO 600, etc. Logical? Probably not but why not build your classic the way you want to use it and have more fun with it?
I retired my original 300 HP numbers matching engine for a well built 383 and it was the best decision I ever made! My original motor is now on the stand and will suly stay there as long as I own the car!
I put my 65 L-79 and 4 speed on the stand for a SBC 400 and a TKO 600. It made it a completely different car. A lot more fun to drive. You can always swap back. It is not that difficult to do. JMO

I did the same thing , 383 in the car , 327/300 on the stand .
When I bought my 65 about 6 years ago the Original engine was on a stand from the past 3 Previous owners. Has a 350-350 in it now. Last week I decided to have the Original motor rebuilt and I will be putting it back in the car within the next couple of weeks. The car will be totally matching #s again and I'll have a spare engine. Will be looking to sell it....
I'd swap the original out, it's worth upwards of $10k and not worth risking IMHO. I pulled my L79 after driving it for many years and putting in a 406 coupled to a RS600.
