#1 Briggs/Cunningham Corvette Ownership Dispute [merged]
I love the 1960 Le Mans Corvettes and have seen Lance's # 3 in person. I also have a nice race print of it on the wall. I've been following the discovery and pics of the #1 car via Lance on FB.
I recv. an email this morning that it has been removed from public viewing due to security reasons...?
Would love to hear via email or pm if anyone knows what is going on with the car. I hope nothing serious...but the email made it sound VERY serious.
Thanks.

Something does not sound right to me about this whole story. On Autoweek it describe the Corvette as;
"On the eve of the Corvettes at Carlisle show in Carlisle, Pa., event promoter Lance Miller opened one of his climate-controlled garages to reveal the 1960 Corvette that many are certain is the car that wore No. 1 and ran in the 1960 race at Le Mans"
Can someone explain to me what "many are certain is the car" means. I take it as they are not 100% sure? Has someone confirmed certain aspects of the car to be 100% it is the car?

Some of the things that I read. This car has the same VIN as the one entered in the race. I also read they found the VIN on the frame. Exhaust cut-outs identical to the # 3 car and windshield wiper holes. Someone said five items positively ID it as the # 1 car. I don't know how bad the fire was when it crashed during the race or other damages through the years. From the pics...doesn't look like many original pieces are left of it.

I bet the key factor will be whether Mathis Sr. reported the car stolen to the authorities back in the 70s. If not, maybe he in fact sold it to Judge Carr without a title.

No chit!!!
stolen cars, judges, cops! Sales reciept vs title, 35 years in storage. restorations , yanked from the center display at the last minute
if the sale was "Consumated" with a bill of sale yet somebody else had the title since the 70's I'm betting there was a dispute at some point over the terms of the sale, no cuddling or reach around during that 70's era free love consumation of the deal. twisted steel and sex appeal.
the car was also involved in a major accident too.
Somebody needs to write a book about this one.......
so....
whats the story behind the '53 # 029?

Platinum Supporting Dealership
It would take a novel to explain it, but to make a long story short, The good news..... a 53 with VIN #29 apparently was discovered in unrestored condition. The bad news, VIN #29 was already accounted for in restored condition............... Vette Vues did a nice article on the debate and story. Do a search, should be easy to find. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c1-a...kissimmee.html
