Default Halibrand for C2

I got a call from my dad tonite to come out and see his new toy. A really nice silver/silver 66. Car was a SCCA car for many years. Roll bar, 5 point harness, hooker headers, luckally, not beat up. He asked me where some of the old style Halibrand whells might be found. What size will fit stock wheel wells and where can they be found ? Thanks

Which style of Halibrands is your dad looking for? Halibrand made several styles in the 50s and 60s. He called me yesterday and told me he was going to get the car. I know he'll enjoy it. Tell him Rex said hello.

Tell him to contact this guy. He bought PS Engineering and plans to continue Phil Schmidt's line of very nice wheels.

I think the style most like the GS style wheels. I was busy with kids tonite and did not get a real good look at the car. Can't wait till this weekend to see it better. I think this is the most excited I have seen him about a car in a long time.

When I was looking for wheels for my 65 I looked into PS wheels. I was looking for 17". This is a pics of what I think is the proper Halibrand style made by PS Engineering in a 17.

That 17" wheel is, indeed, somewhat similar to an original GS wheel (which was 15" diameter).

Here is an original Halibrand magnesium wheel:

One very obvious difference is that the spokes on the original wheel have more depth than those on the 17" wheel. This feature would give the original wheels more lateral strength.

The current American Racing "Salt Flat" wheel looks very much like a Halibrand style more common than the one in your picture.

I believe those were referred to as Kidney Bean wheels.

NOS set of magnesium Halibrands, bought in 1965 for a 1964 Corvette. May put them on my 64 J-56 car.

You probably wouldn't want to race on them. I've been told that magnesium self-weakens from the inside out and that a visual inspection won't reveal the true condition of the metal.

It was my intention to use the wheels (I have a complete set) with some vintage GoodYear tires for display only on our Grand Sports.
