1960 shifter boot
Probably applies to other C1's also.....
The shifter boot in my C1 keeps coming out from under the shifter plate. I have tried gluing it in place but it still works its way loose.
This is the original boot. I have a new boot, but it seems very stiff and does not fit well around the opening at all.
Any suggestions?
Tom

Is the new one you have the wire reinforced boot? The newest reproductions have this wire in them that is supposed to prevent it from pulling out. I have the NOS boot in my car and it's out more than it is in. I suppose I should try one of these and report back.

As I brought this car back to life, I tried to keep as many of the original parts on the car as I could. The shifter boot is original to the car and in good shape (when in neutral.........).
I suppose switching to a wire reinforced boot is the way to go.
Thanks,
Tom

Chances are the original boot is going to start tearing on you with enough use, due to the age. Might as well swap it out with a new wire-reinforced repro, and stick the original in the box for the future.
It has been running great all summer. Took my 87 year old mother out for a ride today. She had a blast but it really messed up her hair. "don't you have a top for this thing?" She asked................
New boot, here I come!

She got back and told my 87 year old dad how awful and loud, and fast, windy and uncomfortable that awful car is. Ya well she really nailed that description. As soon as she got out of the car she asked, why did you ever buy that, that, what did you say this car is?
Oh well, I still miss her complaining.
