Hey guys,

I have always wanted to restore a 1960 but I am not mechanically inclined. I was speaking to a veteran mechanic to try and get started on my tutelage and he said that in order to start learning, pick what you want to restore and get the chiltons manual for it. It is great for new-bies so they can understand what everything is called and how it goes together. Once you are familiar with it, then we start teaching you how to build/repair/restore similar and newer models.

So I decided to get the manuals for 1980 (which is what I have) and a 1960 (which is what I want to do). But I can't seem to find a chilton for 1960 corvette. Do they exist? Is there an alternative?

Thanks.

Start with these three books:

1. 1960 Corvette A.I.M. (Assembly Instruction Manual)
2. 1960 ST-12 Service manual
3. 1958 Chevrolet passenger Car Service Manual (they did not have a complete manual for 1960, only a supplement - 1958 was the last complete manual that will suffice).

I have been able to do most everything with these three manuals (along with help from forum members!). I understand there are additional books also at the NCRS website. Visit them and see what else may be beneficial.

I'm sure others will chime in with additional suggestions.

Agree 100% The book I used the most when doing my 60 was the ST-12. The other two are also very informative especially the AIM (Assembly Instruction Manual)

As far as Chiltons go, the only thing I ever found in them was what I didn't need to know. I prefer Motor manuals for general use.

I did an Ebay search and only found a ST-12 for 1962. Am I looking for 1960 specifically?

The same search on amazon did not yield any results.

The "ST-12" covers '53-'62; it's also called the "1953-1962 Corvette Servicing Guide". The best companion to go with it is the 1961 Passenger Car Shop Manual, which is a "complete" manual, and covers all the shared components that are NOT covered in the ST-12. Both are available from the NCRS on-line store at www.ncrs.org.
