Collecting parts to install GM T5 tilted mount. Question: Can a Camaro bellhousing be modified to eliminate the hydraulic set up? Can I just cut the hydraulic mount off? Will the 1965 fork fit and pivot properly?
I'll take a "stab" at answering this question for you as I'm about finished with my T5 install on my'66. There were 2 bell housings used to install the tilted T5 in a Camaro. The mechanical bell was only used in '83 (and maybe early '84). I have the '83 mechanical bell . . . and I haven't seen another one for sale since I bought mine more than 3 years ago. From '84 on up they switched to the hydraulic bell. I'm sure you can cut the bracket off of the hydraulic bell if you want, or just fabricate a mechanical clutch set up through the bracket.
There were 2 clutch forks used with these 2 bell housings . . . The stock type fork (for the mechanical set up) measures 7 inches from the pivot ball to the outside and they measure 3 inches from pivot ball to center of throw out bearing.
The hydraulic fork is 5.5 inches to the outside and 4.5 inches to the inside. both are a total of 10 inches.
