Re: Need opinions (Mr Mojo)
Hey, The Pineys aren't that far south of you, I think at that price it's worth a look. Get it in the air and check the frame over real good for rot and repairs, it's obvious that most everything else will need attention.
Very interesting! and You can make a silk purse out of a sows ear. I agree with 7Vettes, and if it runs and drives even better. I could make a reasonable long term project if your up to doing glass work. Good luck!
...the car?...a POS...the dealer?..you won't find a more honest guy than joe conte...you should stop by (if your part of the Garden State is not still burning to the ground) and talk to him, he'll tell you what's not obvious and is usually willing to negotiate :smash:
Hey Kid, the fire is about 15 miles south of me.
I've always seen Conte as overpriced. I've never dealt with them before, but I've seen quite a few cars they have and some that my friends had bought from there.
I might take a ride down there Saturday just to have a looksee.
I haven't paid off the '93 yet, so I really can't buy a 3rd vette right now, but I want a '65 in the worst way(my birth year).
Frank, i got their email and checked out that "project" today also (checked it out online! :) ). I think it looks pretty decent, especially compared to all the overpriced-found-it-in-a-barn-ebay JUNK that is out there now!! If the frame is ok the price seems fair. Seems like a good candidate for a "driver restoration" as opposed to an NCRS correct resto. Put in an interior, drop in a crate engine, run it by Maaco, and go vroom!! :) MJ
darn! I wonder if that is the original engine??

Re: Need opinions (Mr Mojo)
Frank,
At that price it's definitely is worth a look. While the pictures show you the obvious body and interior work needed, as someone else mentioned, take a good look at the drivetrain and especially the frame. Find out whether or not Conte owns it or if it's on consignment and see if you can talk to the previous owner.
Whether or not it is a good project car really depends on what your plan for it would be. Start making notes of what would be needed and estimate the price to build it the way you want, then add about 35% more for the things you either can't see or can't plan on in advance. Once you see the total cost you'll have a better idea if it's a good deal for you. Good luck with the search.
I agree with everyone else, definitely worth a look. The front and rear fiberglass repair work makes me think some one was trying to return a modified body to some form of stock. The frame is definitely something I would want to take a look at, considering the price. If it looks good, I vote yea! :yesnod:
For $11.9 asking I'd say go for it!!,...as the other posts have stated just make sure you check the frame and take a good look underneath,..drivetrain suspension etc,..looks to be a good deal if you're looking for a nice "driver" goal car and maybe not too many $'s to get it there. Looks like some glass work to get the wheelwells right, front and rear bumpers, carpet, ignition shielding, wheels and caps, plus paint and some detailing and you would have a nice driver mid year vette for maybe another 5-6K into it.
:chevy Save The Wave!!!
Okay, I will throw out a dissenting opinion. If you want to get that body back to original condition you are looking at a huge amount of work. Both front quarters and both rear need to be replaced, the doors are missing the handles, and the hood isn't original. Even if you do all the body work yourself, I think you are looking at close to $3-4K to get a decent paint job. Then consider all the interior and mechanical work that would need to be done and you are looking at a long time and a lot of money before this car is ready to hit the road.
If you are looking for a project car I would try to find something that hasn't had the body modified to that extent. I say this because I just finished doing the body work and paint on mine and it needed a couple panel replacements. I'm glad I did it but never again.
Like everyone else says, "It's worth a look see"... and if the frame is good and your handi and want a driver its... as they say a "win/win" situation.... besides at that price you can always recoup what you have into it.... :yesnod:
If the frame is good and you don't mind the wheel wells and the doors, go for it. For me, I wouldn't want to tackle the doors and wheel wells. When I look at the engine Bay, I see Lots of Big Block.
I'm not too concerned with returning the body back to original. I want something I can drive around in and not worry about.
I have a couple friends who paint and do body work. My main concern is making it reliable. I don't want to be 1,000 miles from home and broke down.
I think I'll take a look Saturday. I really don't want to give up one of my C4's for it, so I probably will just let it pass, but I still have to see it.
If a project is what you are looking for, I would consider it. I have seen a 1958 in top condition sell for 9K. Gutted, dechromed, no tops or glass, minus motor and trans, oh and missing the hood. The noncomplete body and chassis looked like they just unearthed the poor thing. :yesnod:
