When I did my 66 I went with the reverse light in the middle. I LIKE having backup lights, and find the center position aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

My '66 has had six, all red tailights since the day I purchased it in '68 and i have always thought it makes the back end of the car look more balanced, more complete. Except for the tail lights she's a very original car.

With 3 lights, you have several choices, all 3 the same or two outer brake and tail only with center turn to name two possibilities. Add a backup light to the mix and there's more combos.
true enough but if you add an amber tail light for the turn signal on the each side you can increase the combinations, and the sidepipe cars could add backup lights where the exhaust pipes normally come out and then you could add a 3rd brake light bar mounted on the deck and maybe combine that with a rear spoiler! ...

I like the back light in the middle on the 65.

Thanks guys, good responses and some cool ideas too...anybody got a line on amber lenses?

For those that have all 3 red, are they all 2 element for brake, turn and tail?

All 6 two element, plenty of light for backing up when brake slightly depressed.

yes!!

As Ol Blue stated, just lightly rest your foot on the brake pedal and those six lights give you a lot of back up light.

The foot that's on the clutch, or the one that's on the gas?

I wouldn't change 4 lights to 6 on my '67 but I think 6 lights (4 red and 2 backup) would have looked better on '67s than the way they handled the backup lights on that model.

Which ever way it works for you. After driving my car for over 40 years it is just something I've gotten used to doing.

We have 6 lights all red. Also going with a sequential controller. Call jody at techhelp@ vettaid.com for the harness and controller.

The first two people to see the change both had the same opinion...that it looks much better with 6.

As for light combinations, I think I'm going to go for all 6 as brake, turn and tail. Now that I've seen a couple with inner backup lights, I like all 6 red better. If I still want backup lights later, I'll tuck a couple of small rectangular ones out of sight under the bumpers.

Thanks again for all the ideas and pictures.
