Recommended Chrome Shop In California
Can anyone recommend a chrome shop out in Southern California? I've been to a couple of places and the prices appear to range from $200 on up per bumper; price is not a concern but I definitely want someone who is reputable and who's quality is recommended.
Thanks in advance

I think the best place in California would be….. Virginia... as in Virginia Vettes. $200 each for triple chrome plating. I shipped mine there (from Oregon) and expect them to return in a week or so, so I'll let you know first hand, but I've heard nothing but praise about their work. (I hope they didn't float away in the storm )

Sherm's Plating in Sacramento does an awful lot of chrome plating and stainless polishing for cars that win glitter awards at the annual Autorama car show.

South Bay Chrome in Santa Ana. Did all my bumpers and other dress up goodies for my neighbor. Tell them what you want and they get it done. Plus you save shipping costs. Triple plating is all they do. I was very happy with the finished product and turnaround.

MJB Plating in Rialto has done the last 5 cars for me. Great prices and short wait times. Out of every 10 pieces they usually have to redo 1. Nobodys perfect but definately the best I have found.

Sherms is highly recomended....they are in Sacramento...but at the top of the price range...slow turn around.
Virginia vettes ..recomended by forum members (triple process.. copper...nickel...chrome) and at least 75-100 $ less per item.
....compared to sherms.
Virginia vettes...they do it in house...sherms wanted $275-325 for just the vent windows and $ 325-350 for bumpers (rear) and more for fronts + lisense plate bar.....Verbal quote got on the fone.
Virgini vettes $200 vents and $200 for bumpers..and faster turn round. they are catering to vette guy's on the forum I believe....but if time and the cost is no concern..go local save the freight..

I had mine done here. He is out by LAX. The good news is that he does a great job and is pretty much old school. The bad news is that he doesn't suffer idiots and if you want it in a week - well don't bother. He also doesn't like credit cards - at least the last time I was there he didn't. But his chrome is great and I have had some real **** people say my chrome bumpers are really done well.

South bay chrome in santa ana did my bumpers and rebuilt one that was pretty tweaked... did great work, reasonable turn around but not cheap. Last time i went back to have my windshield frames and door posts done they had a big backlog and were honest and told me it would be months on turn around so i went another route.... I will get the name of the other shop tomorrow from Jack at McJacks as he sent the parts out for me.

Thanks for the recommendations. I dropped my bumpers at "Vernes Chrome Plating" and will await the finished product. I am hoping everything is done before the 16th of December since I'll be heading out of town for a couple of weeks until the new year.
Once they are returned I will post some pictures if anyone is interested.
Pieces Taken in are:
Chrome
- Front LH and RH Bumpers
- Rear LH and RH Bumpers
- License Plate Bar
Powder Coating
- 4 Bumper Brackets
- License Plate Holder
and finally i also took my original valve covers to get refreshed and coated in a chevy orange to match the engine block color.

Melting Slicks
I just saw this post...I had EVERYTHING rechromed on my 58...from the bumpers to the door handles. MECLEC in Fresno! Any parts I wasn't happy with, they redid them. They did an excellent job.

Just had all the chrome on my 61 done at Escondido Plating.
He also did the potmetal trim pieces surrounding the grill.
He quoted me 3 weeks, but completed the job in 1.
Keep it local!
