Default Ignition Coil

I have an old Delco Remy coil, embossed "238" "B-R", which I'd like to use as a backup. Can anyone tell me what it was originally used in, if it used an external ballast, and if possible, what the internal resistance is.
Thank you.

I do not know, but I found this in an internet search. Looks like in a Chevelle application, it required a resistance wire. No info on the other details you seek though.

Thank you. Some here might assume that "B-R" just might stand for "ballast resistor". You know what happens to people who assume. It would be interesting to get an answer to that question.

The reason for the backup coil is the Flamethrower II coil, which I'm using with my Ignitor II trigger and MSD 6AL ignition unit. I don't scare easily, but I'm hearing too many horror stories to discount as cases of improperly wired or improperly matched coils. There has to be something to all of these failures, as where there's smoke, there's usually fire.

I'm curious too. The chevelle discussion, that included the image I used from the parts book, referenced the B-R and indicated it was unresolved.

I'm right there with you, and have put the Delco coils that I originally removed for the Flamethrowers, back into each car as spares.
