Default Dwell setting question

What is the procedure of setting the dwell on dual point dist. with fuel injection?
Does the dwell meter connect to plus and minus side of coil?
This is the 1960 corvette.

Hi Junior and Tina,

Connect the "hot" lead of the dwell meter to the (-) terminal on the coil. Connect the other dwell meter lead to a convenient ground point.

To set the points, disable one set by jamming a piece of cardboard between the contacts. Run the engine and adjust the other set of points for 29 degrees dwell.

Now, move the cardboard over to the other set of point contacts and set the first set of points for 29 degrees dwell.

Remove the cardboard (which enables both sets of points) and verify that you've got about 33 degrees (as I recall) total dwell.

Having said that, I find dual points to be a PITA. So in the distributor of my 'FI '60, I have one point set disabled permanently. Runs fine.

Its actually 34* total dwell as the final measurements; but Jim is right on the rest..here is the procedure:

The dual points supposedly provide greater coil saturation via the extended dwell....
I pulled my dual point dizzy and run a Pertronix billet distributor.

Thanks Jim, I just lost memory on this. I had the car running great and the cranking signal valve went bad and fouled out the points and plugs. I was told this might happen often.
Anyway, once again, thanks !!!!!

Indeed that was the reason. It is necessary for the points to open to a certain minimum gap in order to break the arc that forms when they open. If the gap is too small, the arc will never break, and you'll get almost no spark. That's why you can't just crank up the dwell by closing the gap on single points. If you aren't having the car judged, for heaven's sake get something electronic, preferably something that fits in the distributor. There are in-distributor units available with only one hookup wire so that it will even look like you have points in there if you want to keep the appearance original.

Your stock distributor with a conversion kit (Pertronix, Breakerless SE, etc.).

It's worse than that - the reference to the Summit link was for Bluzrocker, who has a 427.
