Default Help with matching numbers please

Folks,
I was looking at another 67 coupe with a friend. We need some help matching the numbers up. On the back of the engine on the drivers side on the block is 3970010.

On the front passangers side on the block is 13S407410 then V1106C1A (I think). It's a bit hard to ready. Isn't there a good trick to reading these numbers??? I seem to remember something, but forgot.

Thanks for your help.

Part of the puzzle........looks like a 350 - 4 bolt block.

The block was used from 1969 through 1975. Is it possible that the 3 code related characters are actually CLA not C1A?? If so, it appears to be a 1973 Corvette engine (ooooooh a smogger). Yes, at least it's a 4-bolt. If it is "CLA" then it's a 350/190 hp motor that was originally teamed to a TH400 and the engine was built in Flint on November 6, 1972.

My references say 3970010 casting was used for 327 Chevelles & Monte Carlos in 1968, then on various cars & trucks as a 350ci from 1969 to 1979 (including Corvettes).

From the 13S407410 it appears to me the engine was used in a 73 car assembled in St Louis, but I don't have any info on the 73 Corvette serial number range so I can't say for certain it was a Corvette serial... V1106C1A says it was assembled in the Flint, MI assembly plant Nov 6 (of 72)... IF it was used in a Corvette, it might be a "CLA" engine (ie, you said C1A which is close): 190hp with automatic trans.

The serial number on the engine (1S407410) would indicate that it was a Corvette engine (Corvette vehicle serial number for 73, 1Z37J3S407410). Also, the production serial numbers for Corvette in November of 1972 ran from 06055 to 08696, so that would fit.

Thanks for the help. If he is not interested in numbers matching, the 350 block would work fine. Especially, since he would be 'freshening' the motor.
I've rode in it seems very strong.
