Hi Guys,
Needs some input, building a restomod 57, I have an extra set of 62 seats that i am thinking of installing they seem to have a thinner backrest than the 57 seats and that would give me a little bit more leg room, already moved the steering column forward(I am 6,2), has anybody out here done this ,Is it worth while to do it?
Thanks,
AE

Sounds like he's already moved the column Tom; he's asking about backfitting '62 seats into the '57. I have no idea whether or not that will accomplish his goal of more leg room.
Well, the 62 seats definitely give more room than 58-60, dunno about pre 58.....
If the backrest is thinner, and seats can be moved fore and aft, that would provide more legroom. Switching to smaller steering wheel would provide more vertical room as well.
Looking forward to the results...
The 56-60 seats are virtually the same in all respects, and provide less room.
A major change was made to 61-62 seats and they provide considerably more leg AND head room.
The 56-60 seats have a seperate, one-piece frame/adjusting track and the back and bottom cushions fit onto the frame.
In 61, the frame was completely eliminated and the seat bottom was constructed as a cushion/frame/track all in one piece. The 61-2 back has posts at the bottom which bolt to the rear of the bottom cushion frame. As a result, the 61-2 seats now sit lower and slide back further. If you use 61-2 style seats in a 56-60 car, you MUST also have the rear bracket that bolts to the floor pan behind the seat. The 61-2 seat bottom has tabs that slip under this bracket and then the front of the seat bottom has 2 bolts that secure it to the floor.
Sorry, I don't have pictures to post for the 56-60 and 61-2 differences.
I did not include nor mention 53-5 seats because they are somewhat different, plus the 53-5 PASSENGER seat is NON-adjustable.
Going with the 61-62 type seats and use of a smaller steering wheel (which you may already be doing) will greatly improve the driving comfort for you. I would not hesitate to do it since you are doing a resto mod anyway. Pilot Dan
