I have recently taken possession of a rare barn find and I need a value. I have the original axe that George Washington used to chop down the family cherry tree! It is in very good origonal condition. The handle has been replaced three times and the head was replaced only twice but all parts were OEM!!!! This is the original axe!!!!! How much do you think it is worth?
Is the replacement handle made out of cherry wood from the tree he cut down? If you can verify that it will be worth more. Does the ax still have the build sheet on it?

The handle is oak but the numbers appear to match the head. I guess that means a re-stamp? Previous owner claims to have documentation of the OEM replacement parts but I haven't seen it yet. Don't know about the build sheet. I'm not sure if early production axes had build sheets?

Tom... is it #1, #2, #3, or #4? Good ole' George had more than one axe...

I almost bought an original AXE like yours last year but I was able to run the numbers at Real_Axe_Registry.org and turns out somebody else had a state re-issued AXE license for the one I was going to buy.

If it's the same axe he used to cut down the cherry tree to make his wooden teeth that axe could be worth a boat load of money... Yes, that very same boat he used to cross the Delaware
A little trivia... did you know that everything George ate tasted like cherries
Hmmmm. Lots of good suggestions here. I never thought about trying the Real_Axe_Registry.org or Cherrytree Forum. And I didn't know GW had more than one. I wonder how many of the others are still around? I thought for sure I had a one of one. Oh well. Don't think I will have it judged. Takes too much effort a I don't want to end up with a garage queen. Maybe I will build a Resto-Axe! You know update it with a Titanium head and a Carbon Fiber handle!
OK Tom, time for you to find employment again. Retirement is affecting your thought process. I'll give you five bucks for the axe head on the probable value to the Smithsonian.
