FRONT WHEEL HUB
THANKS
STEVE
Also, it occurs to me that it might be possible to have the hub machined oversize, then have a press-fit "shim" cylinder machined to fill the gap between the hub and the bearing race, which might be safer than filling with weld material.
But, the referenced thread says that hubs may not be so difficult to find in salvage yards... perhaps a parts cross-reference book (sorry, I don't have one) could be found that lists that hub.... original part number(s):
3812712 for 63-64 Corvette
3998278 for 65-68 Corvette
It's also conceivable that a specialized bearing supplier (check your phone book) could find a comparable bearing with the same inner race diameter and overall width as the original, but a slightly larger outer race diameter and then you could have the hub machined out to a press-fit size for the replacement bearing. Maybe they even offer shims... I never asked about that, but this kind of problem must occur often enough that they might.
