I just found a 283 or 327 with the Code, FO712HT on the stamp pad.
Need help in Identifying what I have.
That prefix and suffix was only used on '65-'66 Corvette L-79 (327/350hp) engines - the block casting date will tell which year you have. There should also be a 7-digit VIN derivative stamped on the outboard half of the pad.
On the back of the block on the flange where the bell housing bolts too. One side will be a casting number the other side the casting date both will be embossed into the block
There are no other stampings on the Pad
Where is the casting # on the Block ?
The casting NUMBER (should be 3782870 for a '65 or 3858174 for a '66); is on the driver's side rear flange of the block where the bellhousing bolts up, and the casting DATE is in the same area on the passenger side, about 6" outboard of the distributor - it will have a letter, one or two numbers, and one more number. If there's no VIN stamped on the pad, it must be a complete Service engine.
I had a chance to check the Casting # tonight
The 3 are 3782870 and G105
I rechecked the Pad and there are no other #s
The block is correct for a '65 HT application, and was cast on July 10, 1965 and assembled on July 12th. Complete Service engines (as-shipped from the engine plant) were only available when they were still in production, so that looks like what you have. If it had been installed originally in a Corvette, it would have the VIN derivative stamped on the front pad.
