Can the mods move this over to the C1/C2 Corvette thread.
No one is answering because you posted this under the parts for sale.

Seems to me they are virtually interchangable. If you remove the console, then remove the rubber inline insert that hugs the shifter, what you have left is the manual transmission opening. You would need the manual boot, and the boot bolt plate for sure, and the 4 speed, plate maybe others can let you know if you need more then that?

No, you can't - the manual and automatic console castings are different.

The opening in the console, is the same shape as the opening in the brushed trim plate on the top of the console.

If your converting from auto to manual, you'll need a complete manual console too.

Understand about the opening being different, but why can't this be cut out the same as the 4 speed and a new manual brush plate over it ? Seems there would be enough material left to adhere brush plate to it ? Suppliers show a replacement brush plate for manuals , so it has to fasten somewhere.

You might be able to cut out the auto console for the 4 speed if you were very careful. But, you'll wind up with a console that's missing a part of the small raised chrome edge surrounding the shifter opening. You can see the area I'm referring to in the photo below of the auto console. I'm thinking my 4-speed coupe has the same chrome surrounding the 4-speed opening in a manner similar to the auto console shown. The raw edge of the cut would always be somewhat visible and noticeable to anyone, yourself most of all!

So, if you're going to go to all the trouble and expense of converting from the auto to the manual, why not do it properly and replace the console as well? The manual consoles are somewhat available, I've got an extra myself should you be interested. I'd replace the console, I don't think you'll regret it in the long run.

The only console that can be used interchangeably, is the 1964 console. That was the only year that the same console was used for both manual and automatic. You can not cut out the proper opening on a 65-67 console to use with a 4 speed.

You could possibly cut the console out, but the 4 speed console trim parts, won't work in the automatic console.

The shape of the shifter/ashtray area is different, between the 2 consoles. The indent where the brushed trim piece goes, is longer on the automatic console, than the manual one. The automatic trim piece is 6 5/16" front to back, while the manual console is only 5 11/16" long. The curves at front of the indent, are shaped differently also.

The ashtray door is positioned and shaped differently in the manual console too.

Thanks to all for the feedback. I will pick up a 4 speed console to fit.

The 65-67 powerglide console is the only one not being reproduced, so you will have no problem selling your old one, it is nice! I have been looking for a nice one for months, and may just use a 64 one if I can't find a good one soon.
