Default another tranny question

I pulled the engine on my '66 327/300 and decided to pull the tranny also (muncie 4sp) just to clean it up and change the mount and tunnel insulation , etc . While cleaning it up I stood it on end with the tail section UP then found oil leaking from the front around the shaft . Does this mean there is a front seal leaking ? The inside of the bell housing wasnt oily before . I hoping it was just from being in the vertical position . I'm going to replace the rear seal but don't want to disassemble the tranny to do the front .

There's no front seal on a Muncie; don't stand it on end.

Whew, you don't know how good that makes me feel ! I was afraid I was going to have to tear it apart and I don't have the expertise or the $$ to do that along with the other stuff I'm doing .
Now I'm off to the garage to get greasy .

Put a yoke or a plug on the output shaft and stand it up tail-down for a while to let any lube on the input shaft drain back into the case - you sure don't want any to get on the clutch disc. You may want to remove the front bearing retainer and clean the lube off the input shaft and splines anyway, back to the front bearing.

Default tranny info

John Z - you are such a wealth of info . I was just searching for info on the back up switch and found a thread you posted . The picture you provided me with the answer to another question I had about the clip on the firewall right below the ballast resistor . Now I know it's for the wires for the backup switch .
Another question , are the wires soldered to the switch ? Mine is still too dirty to tell !

Yes, they are, and the switch was then dipped in vinyl to keep moisture out of the connections.
