i bought all new auto meter gauges, plus the tach and clock to replace the stock gauges in my 58 , has anyone done this swap without butchering the stock dash housing ? any hints as to making this work ? thank you !
Here are some pictures of the Autometer Arctic White gauges I used in my ’59. I first tried mounting the gages from the rear of the cluster, but the rear of the gauges interfered with the pod mounting frame plus this placed the gauges even further away than the stock gauges and made them harder to read. I finally decided to mount the gauges from the front of the pod and I think this looks better plus it makes the gauges easier to read. The small gauges are 2-1/16" in diameter and a small amount of trimming around the mounting hole is necessary to get the gauge to fit into the holes from the front. The tachometer fit with no trimming.
Here is my center console with the Autometer clock and temp gauge for automatic transmission
You will have to fabricate a plate in the rear of the gauges for the gauge mounting brackets to press against.
