Correct mounting is just to the right of the wiper motor. There should be a single screw hole. The left side of the resistor will almost touch the wiper mounting plate. If that's not clear, email me and I'll send you a picture. BTW, ti mounts in a horizontal orientation.
My '58 has a clutch head screw holding the ballast resistor, I think it's a #14 or almost 1/4" in diameter. All this talk about left and right side could confuse things, my ballast resistor is on the passenger side (right side of car, left side looking at it with the hood open), screw on top. No Fruedian slip.
I presumed that was the case as when I looked for the hole the only one that I found was on the "passenger" side and it was 1/4" so thats where I've mounted it.
