Default 57 options question?

When i bought the 57 it had an aftermarket radio with a stock appearing antenna on the rear fender, a heater (not sure if it is vette or not), loose parts for the brake warning option, the remains of courtesy lights with switches on the door jambs, and a soft top with a two top rear deck. The heater and radio were wired directly to the harness with inline fuses.

But:

It appears that the car never had the fuse board installed that supports the above options. There are no holes anywhere on the firewall where it should be mounted that indicate it was ever there.
There are no pie plates for the soft top, just the soft top brackets that attach directly to the bulkhead.
There are no radio capacitors, ground straps, or shielding parts present.
There is no evidence that the e-brake warning switch was ever mounted to the e-brake shaft and there is no pin mounted on the stalk to engage the switch. The car came with the jewel installed with socket and wires hanging loosely behind the speedo and the switch and flasher in a box.

Given all of this, I'm thinking this fuelie had no options other than maybe the courtesy lights and was a hardtop only car. What do you guys think? Your opinions are valued as I have decisions to make while the car is at the painters.

Even without any options, it would still have the fuse block and ground straps on the front motor mount. The dash wiring gets its ground from the engine so it needs the ground straps to the frame and exhaust.

I'm not so sure - if it indeed was a no-electrical-option car, there would be no need for the accessory junction block. Only the options (radio, heater, park brake warning, courtesy lights) were fused and fed from that block - everything that was standard equipment was fed from the ignition or headlight switch.

Thx to both of you for the responses!

John - There is no evidence of the fuse block being there with no mounting holes and no patches. The firewall is untouched where I think this block is supposed to be mounted. I couldn't find in the AIM where exactly it was located.

Do you have a picture of one mounted so I can verify it was never there?

Photo below is of an original '56 - location in '57 was the same. It's also shown in the '57 Assembly Manual, in section 12, sheet 6.00, View "D".

Thx John.

The picture is perfect! I saw the view in the AIM you mentioned but it doesn't show exactly where the factory drilled the holes for it in the firewall. Now, off to the see the car this evening at the painters to verify all of this...

One other thing, the AIM has the courtesy lights wired into the light switch only and not to the fuse board, correct?

The reason I ask is that the cut outs in the area under the dash and for the switch locations on the door jams appear to be original from the factory so I'm thinking that is the only option that was on the car originally.

Yes, that's correct - the courtesy lights are fed by an orange wire from the headlight switch, not from the accessory fuse panel, so if the only electrical option was courtesy lights, the car wouldn't have the panel.
