Default Block casting# 959512

I am thinking of buying a 61 vette. At this point I only have the VIN and the block casting # 959512. The owner has had the car over 40 years and is the 2nd owner. He put a replacement motor in in 1967-68 and thinks it is a 67-68 vette motor, I'm trying to confirm that. Any help ID'ng the block would be appreciated.

Thanks

I'm guessing that your missing a digit. I'm thinking it should be 3959512.

The 3959512 block, was used for 62-63 327/250 engines. It was a 2 bolt main block, and I think was only used in full size Chevrolets. The 512 block was not used in any Corvettes.

Thanks for the quick reply - I realized after more checking I must have missed a number, I'll need to look at it again

It was also used for many years, almost exclusively, for 327 and 350 Service replacement blocks, with the rear crankcase vent hole.

Yes, look for a CExxxxxxx number on the stamp pad. If it has one, the first digit after the CE should indicate the year it was assembled., but it won't tell you what motor config is was built as.

Thanks - the rest of the car is original (I think the paint may have been redone by original owner (my seller has had it since 1968) in the 60's but it's the original lacquer and in very good shape, as is the chrome. Interior a 6/7 out of 10. From whatI've seen in my research the price is right too.
