I'm stumped. See if I can explain: 66 corvette
1. Wiper motor done by Steve Hackel- saw it working on both speeds on his bench.
2. Switch is good- verified by actually installing in friends 66- both speeds work.
3. Switch is grounded- verified with multimeter.
4. Ground to starter is good- verified with multimeter and visual inspection.
5.Have power- verified with test light on brown wire
Wipers work on low speed only, no high speed. Pump also works. Sure, I can get by with low speed only, but this has now become a challenge! Can anyone help?
Had a similar problem on my '67 Chevelle - it turned out somebody had screwed up the wiring (I can't remember the exact issue), IIRC they had mis-wired things at the motor. A subtle problem and took some troubleshooting and a good schematic.
That's what is so puzzling, everything is correct. I even took switch out of the equazion by putting three wires on the 3 wiper motor terminals, then applying power and grounds independently. besides, switch works perfectly in another car.
I agree. Ground the motor then apply 12V alternately to the low speed lug on the motor and then the high speed lug. If it works your problem is back towards the dash switch and wiring; if it doesn't work then the problem is from the motor forward.
Forget about your checks in someone else's car and Hackel's bench tests. Its just distracting you - start fresh with your troubleshooting.
Just looking at the wiring diagram, it looks like the yellow wire is getting a ground when it shouldn't. Only the light blue should be grounded to get high speed. With the key on, you should get 12v on the brown wire (actually two brown wires, one goes to the washer) and you should have a black wire grounded to the starter mount bolt via the heater fan motor housing. If you have 12v on the brown wire to the wiper motor, and ground to the black wire, you should be able to ground only the light blue wire and the wipers should run on high speed (with the wiper switch disconnected). If they do, you have a short to ground on the yellow wire somewhere between the connector on the wiper motor and the wiper switch. (assuming that as you said, the wiper motor is working and wired correctly.) In other words, the wipers should not run low speed with the yellow wire loose or not grounded via the switch.
