Default Fastener Source?

Is there a good source for correct fasteners (nuts, bolts and washers) for various locations for mid year cars? I recently purchased a '65 and would like to return nuts and bolts to correct versions.

Thanks.

Old country auto wreckers that have 60's GM cars and trucks. Unfortunately, not too many of these wreckers are left.

All of the Corvette vendors, carry correct hardware, for your Corvette.

Be forewarned, Fortier claims his hardware is the best, and prices it accordingly. Try $65 for an oil pan drain plug, and $15 for a big block harmonic balancer bolt washer. That's $15 for a 2" round washer.

I've always wondered about this. Does it matter in judging if you installed reproduction but correct fasteners? I haven't yet restored my car, but think the new bolts, nuts, screws would look better.

Many (most) of the reproduction fasteners are not quite like the originals, and are detectable as reproductions. So you would take a small originality deduction when your car is judged. Generally these deductions are small for reproduction bolts/nuts/washers/etc.

Beware of original replated bolts and nuts that might have past corrosion/structural damage. For critical areas on the suspension and brakes, new SAE replacements or (new) reproductions are best.

My opinion....FWIW

if you are going to have the car judged then it is worth the extra cost and getting his expertise. He spent about 20 mins on the phone with me the other day...I was surprised that a guy that formed and sold a supply house company would personally spend that kind of time with me...but he did. Very enlightening conversation about bolts, nuts, etc. and GM's approach.

if you are not going to try for a top-flight status then you might want to think about another source due to the costs.

just my $.02 opinion...

Also, just for awareness...no website, limited email...he is a phone and a fax guy. Probably why the costs are so high, very personalized old school approach.

After you factor in shipping from most of the usual vendors, that's about par for the course. I think the angriest I've ever been on the internet was paying almost $20 for hardware priced around $4.

I dealt with Richard on a couple of occasions and his quality, from my experience has been top notch.
