A friend with a 59 with a T10 is having shifting problems.
The transmission is a fresh rebuild.
With the car not moving and running you can shift through the gears without any problems. Pretty much the same with the engine stopped.
When moving, the shift from 1st to 2nd needs to be done gently, the 2nd to 3rd shift is also difficult.
The linkage has been properly adjusted.
Any thoughts or things to try?
Thanks,
Bruce B
Sounds like your not getting full release of the clutch. Check all of the adjustments and look for warn linkage, bent clutch fork, worn pivot ball etc.

Thanks for the input.
We went back and adjusted the clutch, checked and adjusted the shift linkage and went out for a drive.
The shifting was still not good but I was troubled more by transmission noise.
2nd and 3rd gear under acceleration whined very loud.
When you let off the gas the noise stopped.
Shifting was still not very good , had to double clutch a few times to get it in gear.
Another strange thing was that at one point the trans would not shift out of second gear, I tried everything but it would not move. When I shut off the engine it shifted out of 2nd very easily.
I think it's time to pull the trans, any thoughts?

IF you can shift it pretty easy sitting still with the clutch in, the clutch is working fine. Usually when the clutch is the issue, it will be harder than heck sitting still, engine running, and be easier while moving.
Like John said, not all rebuilds are done right and if it's making a loud noise, stop now and fix what's wrong before you do more damage.
and for the obvious question, you did fill it up with gear oil? I worked at a standard only shop for years when I was younger, I can't tell you how many failed units came back because they didn't put oil in them.
Guys,
Good points and questions.
The clutch was put in recently and it is adjusted properly.
No grinding when putting it in reverse(engine running) or first & second but difficult shift into 3rd and 4th.
The trans was rebuilt by a reliable guy , but I did not check the trans lube, sooo it might not be present. I'll call my friend shortly and find out if it has lube in it.
Thanks again.
Bruce B.
Joe,
I read your instructions on transmission rebuilding and it is great, so I appreciate your input along with others comments.
